Abbreviated description
Space Shuttle Columbia, STS 107 was the first shuttle flight in then recent years that was not related to ISS activities. It carried seven astronauts who helped oversee some 80 microgravity experiments. After a 16-day mission, the shuttle began its re-entry on 1 February 2003, but disintegrated over east central Texas on its path towards Cape Canaveral. There were no survivors.
The Biopack facility is a space shuttle middeck locker based research tool. It provides the experimenter with a very versatile research cabinet for biological experiments under microgravity and in-flight control conditions. It occupies the space of only two Middeck Lockers.
